Oh Bellhorn, You Whore!

I know at least one former Sox player shows up down in Joe "Aunty Entity" Steinbrenner's Bronx Bartertown every season but I liked Bellhorn. Local boy makes good and all that. Now he's wearing pinstripes and looks like Joey Lawrence. That hair will have to go, Mark; George's orders.

Mark Bellhorn- dead to me now.

correct me if i'm wrong, but the red sox had no interest in keeping him.

i know you still haven't gotten over embree joining the yankees either so i really feel for you.

The Sox didn't want to keep him after he refused to go to Pawtucket. A real team player, that one. Embree was terrible so it was less of a loss but any of them that don pinstripes without having the good grace to go through at least one filter team deserves nothing but the utmost contempt.

so clemens is okay in your book?

Yep- didn't you see the Sox fans' ovation for the Rocket when he got his 300th win even though he was wearing Yankee road grays and did it in Fenway? We may be petty and vindictive but we are not as petty and vindictive as Mets fans (shudder to think).

Wade Boggs on the other hand.... I find New Englanders (like Country Mouse) find it hard to fully turn their backs on Boggs even though he went south but the usually temper their praise with "he cheated on his wife you know".

Its the ones who make a big to-do about enjoying playing for the Yankees against the Sox that really piss us off up here (and yes, Clemens blotted his copybook after the 300th win game by doing a fair bit of that).

I thought I was the last guy on the planet showing Bellhorn any love. I liked him too, but when Graffanino came along it was time for Mark to go. He sucked this year.

The way I see it, if the Yankees are taking guys who are no longer making contributions to the Red Sox and putting them in the lineup (Bellhorn, Embree), it can only be viewed as a positive.

i guarantee you that when bellhorn gets his 3,000 hit in a yankee uni while playing at fenway, he'll get a standing ovation.

It pains me because Bellhorn (known in this house as the post-Return of the Jedi Mark Hamill) is a Boston native. Not only does he get the rivalry, he lived it. Ergo, he is a whore. Non-New England raised Red Sox (or ball players in general) are merely sluts.

And I really liked him because he was such an inconsistent hitter (Listo cf. my unwarranted liking of Gabe Kapler)

I'm following along at home in re: the Rivalry, yet I don't begrudge the man taking the best job available. I currently go to work five days a week at a place where I can no more than tolerate about 75% of my co workers. It beats starvation (for now).

Sure, it would be nice to have Bellhorn go through a filter team or two. But why not enjoy the fruits of his suckage for a change? He and Embree have snuck into the Stadium in Theo's version of the Trojan Horse.
